Learn to Make Needle-Felted Birds!
Date: February 28, 2009
Time: 9:30 a.m. to noon
Cost: $35
Beginners and experienced needle-felters will enjoy sculpting a ball of wool into a realistic and life-sized sitting bird (about 3-6 inches long). The morning of the class you may choose to make a chickadee, cardinal, indigo bunting, eastern bluebird, goldfinch, Baltimore oriole, titmouse, or purple finch. All materials, tools, and instructions are included to make one bird. Students will go home with a finished bird and ideas on how to display it. Students will be able to take home the one individual felting needle they use in the class.
Needle-felting, a dry felting technique, is relaxing and easy to master. It requires no artistic talent or knowledge of knitting, crochet or sewing. Adults of all ages and youths age 12 and older will enjoy this class and be amazed at what they can create.
Using colored wools, needle-felting tools, and a cushion, participants will start the session by learning the basics of needle-felting as they make flower petals and leaves, which can be used later to make a display for their birds.
Instructor: Diane Cook Johnson, owner of Soft Touch Farm and leader of Club Sandwich 4-H in Center Sandwich, NH, has been needle-felting and teaching the craft for four years.
Please Note: Optional additions to bird can take place from 12:00 to 12:30 pm.
