Quilts, quilts, I love quilts. I'm absolutely, positively, wild about quilts! Keepsake Quilting's own songstress, Kathie, strummed her guitar and sang her own quilter's version of the kids song "I Love Mud" to kick off our 17th annual Summer Sale festivities.

Throngs of other people who were absolutely, positively, wild about quilts-and knitting, needlework and scrapbooking, too-began lining up on the boardwalk in front of the Keepsake Quilting and Patternworks shops in Center Harbor during the wee hours of the morning of Friday, June 1st. Spirits were high as bargain hunters played word guessing games, pocketbook scavenger hunt and what's-in-the-mystery-bag. A frenzy of excitement ensued when boxes of fabrics were placed along the boardwalk for make-your-own scrapbags. Stuffing scraps of fabric into a zipper-sealed plastic bag has developed into a real science, with most fabric lovers divided into two camps-the fabric rollers and the fabric folders. The real trick is to zip up the bags without popping the seams in order to receive the bargain price of $4.99. (Many a husband?s sole responsibility during the sale is to sit with his wife's pile of precious scraps and squeeze them into the bags while she bargain hunts.) Once the sale tent was opened, the excitement heightened as books, notions, tools, yarns and fabrics galore were snatched up at ridiculously low prices.

When shoppers needed a little nourishment to keep up their stamina, they didn't have far to go. Thanks to a local American Cancer Society Relay for Life team on Friday and the Boy Scouts of America on Saturday, shoppers could grab a bite to eat right out on our front lawn and get right back to the important business at hand.

Energy was needed for our much-anticipated afternoon fabric auction. Our auctioneers, Heather, Kerri and Linda, entertained the crowd as they tossed fabric from the back of the Keepsake Quilting truck.

Fran M. of Gray, Maine, got lots of terrific fabric absolutely free as the winner of our guess-the-fat-quarter contest. Amazingly, Fran?s guess was right on the button, guessing that our Super Satchel Box held 105 fat quarters! Another lucky gal was Lizabeth T. of Andover, New Hampshire, who was the winner of our prize drawing for survey participants, winning a table-runner quilt kit.

Prizes, games, bargains and camaraderie-what a fun weekend was had by all in the little town of Center Harbor, New Hampshire. And, best of all, we can look forward to doing it all over again next year. Be sure to mark your 2008 calendars for Friday and Saturday, June 6th and 7th.
