A popular quilting technique, making yo-yo's can jazz up any quilt or sewing project. They are also a popular quilting motif in modern quilt patterns and can add a fun touch to projects of any size. Easy to make, yo-yo's involve cutting circles to the appropriate size and pulling the edges of the fabrics inward to create a gathered circle. The gathered side appears more decorative and is the "right" side of the yo-yo that you will show.
A quick quilting tip to making cleaner yo-yo's: be sure to make your running stitches longer rather than shorter. When they are long, it is much easier to gather the quilt fabric together and make the hole smaller. Also, make sure that the raw edge of the circle is folded under to hide them inside the yo-yo.
