Dear Clara, by designer Jason Yenter for In the Beginning Fabrics, is an ode to Clara Driscoll who was head of the Tiffany Studios Women's Glass Cutting Department (the "Tiffany Girls"), in New York City. Clara started with the company in 1888 and worked there on and off for more than 20 years. Women who were engaged or married were not allowed to work at the company, so she had to leave when she married in 1889. After her husband died in 1892 she returned and continued to work at the company until 1909 when she remarried. Driscoll designed more than thirty Tiffany lamps produced by Tiffany Studios, among them the Wisteria, Dragonfly, Peony and many other iconic motifs. Driscoll was one of the highest-paid women of her time, earning $10,000 per year. Inspired by Tiffany glass, this collection is an interplay of light, color, and movement featuring radiant, mosaic-like patterns that resemble glowing planes of stained glass.
