Big Sew is designed to be flexible, welcoming, and pressure-free. You can join at any time during the year and participate at your own pace — there’s no need to commit upfront.

Create with the Monthly Prompts
Each month, we’ll share a new sewing prompt. You may complete up to one project per prompt.
Prompts do not need to be completed in order, and you’re never required to sew every month.
- January -- Solids. This prompt is all about building from a strong foundation. Solid fabrics let color, texture, and design take center stage — no distractions, just creativity. Whether you keep it minimal or go bold, this is your chance to explore shape, contrast, and intention in a way that feels right for you.
- February -- Handmade with Love. We’re inviting you to sew something with someone special in mind. That could be a partner, child, friend, family member, neighbor, teacher — or even yourself. Love comes in many forms, and they all belong here.
- March -- Hello, Spring! March’s Community Makes prompt is all about welcoming the new season with color, movement, and fresh inspiration. Create a project using floral fabrics as the star. Your project can be quilted or sewn — big or small — and completely your own. This prompt is meant to feel light, creative, and full of possibility.
- April — Scrap Happy
April’s Community Makes prompt is all about creativity, sustainability, and making something beautiful from what you already have. This month, we’re celebrating the art of scrap sewing—using leftover fabrics, treasured pieces, and saved scraps as the foundation for your project. Your scraps can be coordinated or completely random, big or small, new or well-loved. This prompt encourages makers to slow down, explore what’s in their stash, and find joy in every piece. - May — Summer Ready
May’s Community Makes prompt is all about getting ready for the sunny days ahead. Create something you’ll use and love all summer long—whether that’s for outdoor gatherings, everyday adventures, or even your furry friends. Think picnic quilts, beach bags, table linens, or something fun for your pets like bandanas, beds, or toys. Your project can be practical, playful, or a little bit of both—whatever helps you step into summer feeling ready. - June — One Yard Wonders
June’s prompt focuses on doing more with less. Makers are challenged to create something using just one yard of fabric.
From bags and accessories to home décor and small quilts, there are so many possibilities packed into a single cut. This is perfect for quick summer makes, trying something new, and encouraging creativity without overwhelm.
Every Project Counts
There’s no need to choose an entry level ahead of time. At the end of the year, your entry level is determined by how many prompts you completed:
- 10–12 completed projects → Eligible for the Full Sew Entry Prize
- 6–9 completed projects → Eligible for the Mid Sew Entry Prize
- 3–5 completed projects → Eligible for the Mini Sew Entry Prize
- 1–2 completed projects → Eligible for participation or bonus prize drawings
No matter when you join — January, July, or later — every completed prompt counts.
Track & Submit Your Projects
To help you stay organized, we’ve provided an optional project tracker where you can log your projects as you go.
Final project submissions will be sent by email at the end of the year following instructions coming soon!
Community First
Sharing your projects in the Facebook group is encouraged for inspiration and connection, but it’s never required. Big Sew is about creativity, community, and enjoying the process — not perfection.
